At Cedar Mountain Bernese, our breeding program is built around one simple goal: raising healthy, confident Bernese Mountain Dogs that are prepared to become loved members of their families. From carefully planned pairings to the day each puppy heads home, we focus on health, temperament, socialization, and thoughtful puppy development.
Every litter begins long before puppies are born. We carefully consider each parent’s health, temperament, structure, pedigree, and overall compatibility before planning a breeding. Our goal is to produce Bernese Mountain Dogs that reflect the qualities we value most in the breed: loving temperaments, sound structure, intelligence, and the ability to thrive as family companions. We do not breed simply to produce puppies. Each litter is planned with a purpose.
The health of our dogs and puppies is a priority throughout our program. Our breeding dogs receive breed-appropriate health testing and veterinary care before becoming part of our breeding program. We use those results, along with pedigree and family history, when evaluating potential pairings. Puppies receive age-appropriate veterinary care before leaving Cedar Mountain Bernese and go home with health records for their new families.
The first several weeks of a puppy's life can have a lasting influence on how they respond to the world around them. Our puppies are raised with daily interaction and gradually introduced to new experiences as they grow. Depending on their age and developmental stage, puppies may experience: Gentle daily handling Different household sounds A variety of surfaces and textures Age-appropriate toys and enrichment Indoor and outdoor environments Grooming and handling exercises New people and everyday activity Individual time away from littermates These experiences are introduced gradually so puppies can explore and learn with confidence.
Our puppies are raised where they can receive regular attention rather than growing up isolated from everyday life. As they develop, they become familiar with the sights, sounds, routines, and activity that come with living alongside people. We want our puppies to leave us curious, comfortable with handling, and ready to continue learning with their new families.
Every puppy is different. Throughout the weeks puppies are with us, we watch their personalities develop. Some puppies are adventurous and outgoing. Others may be more thoughtful, easygoing, independent, or people-focused. These observations help us guide families toward puppies whose personalities may be a good fit for their home, lifestyle, and expectations. Our goal is not simply to help someone choose a puppy based on color or markings. We want to help create a lasting match between puppy and family.
Before puppies leave Cedar Mountain Bernese, we begin introducing skills and routines that can make the transition into their new homes easier. This may include early exposure to: Crates Grooming and nail handling Household routines Outdoor potty areas Short periods of individual time Riding in a vehicle Collars and basic leash exposure Families receive information about their puppy's routine so they can continue building on what the puppy has already learned.
Our relationship with our puppy families does not end on pickup day. We love seeing our puppies grow and encourage families to stay in touch, share photos, ask questions, and let us know how their Cedar Mountain Bernese puppy is doing. Choosing a breeder is a big decision, and placing one of our puppies is equally important to us. We want every Cedar Mountain puppy to have a family that will love them for a lifetime.
